This painting is a unique piece. Created around the same time that Wieland was working on "Lovers", her drawing series of the late-1950s, it is potentially the only painting that was produced in conjunction with this series. This small and irregularly shaped canvas was not cut down and over-painted from an existing work, but painted after it had been cut and primed. Never having been mounted on a stretcher, there are pinholes at each of the four corners suggesting that the canvas was tacked to another surface - most likely her studio wall as a reference for drawing works. Highly regarded as the first feminist artist in Canada, Wieland explored her politics through her art, pushing it to the limit, and more than any other artist, male or female, of the time.
