Robin Collyer
1949 -
Internationally known as a sculptor, Robin Collyer has produced photographs since the early 1970s. Both art forms reveal his ongoing interest in text and architectural form. Collyer is primarily a landscape photographer, but not in the traditional sense. He has photographed rural, suburban, and urban scenes, with particular emphasis on Toronto, the city he calls home. Collyer examines block-like houses, alleys, city streets, piles of litter, and forest clearings for what they tell us about our impact as human beings on the landscape. One of the most obvious manifestations of this impact is corporate signage. Many of Collyer’s photographs deal with the use of language in the world of advertising. In much of Collyer’s work, his presence is felt through a subtle humour and irony. Collyer lives and works in Toronto.
