    Lecture Hall

Free  •  In English with simultaneous translation and bilingual question period

With Janina Struk, documentary photographer and author of Private Pictures: Soldiers' Inside View of War (2011)

Lens above Lens: The Development & Use of Aerial Photography in WWI
    Lecture Hall

Free  •  In English with simultaneous translation and bilingual question period

With Gordon Beck, Map Specialist, McMaster University Library

The Great War was the first to make extensive use of aerial photography. This new, vertical perspective allowed the camera to capture every footprint of activity. By war’s end, information from these photographs supported everything from artillery spotting to map creation. The world would never be the same.
