Ottawa, Canada - May 3, 2002
PRESS RELEASE
La photographie canadienne pleure le décès d'une de ses plus grandes artistes, Mariana Yampolsky
It's with much sadness that the National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography received a call from Mexico to inform them that Mariana Yampolsky passed away this morning.
A highly respected photographer in Mexico, Mariana Yampolsky was recognized for the tender, emotionally charged vision of Mexico's people and culture that she expressed through her camera's lens.
The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography had just recently opened the exhibition Mariana Yampolsky: Image -Memory, on 17 April. Presenting 90 photographs steeped in a startling emotional intimacy and intensity, the exhibition is open to Museum visitors until 13 June 2002.
