Ottawa, Canada - May 15, 2001

The National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography today stressed that it continues to remain open during the current labour disruption by 201 employees who are members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC).

The National Gallery has been very supportive of the negotiation process and hopes for a speedy and effective resolution to the labour disruption. Its objective continues to be to obtain a contract that is fair, equitable and fiscally responsible. The final offer to employees includes significant salary increases of 4.25 to 6.25 per cent in year one for all employees who are within the salary scales, and future increases of 4.25 per cent per year for a further three years for all employees who are within the salary scales. In addition, there is improved leave, maternity and vacation packages for all employees.

The National Gallery of Canada and the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography are doing everything possible to ensure that core operations and key services to the public continue without interruption. However, the public should call (613) 990-1985 or 1-888-319-2787 regarding special and educational programs.
