The National Gallery of Canada Foundation unveils its $15 million Donor Wall

Ottawa - December 6, 2005

This evening, with numerous patrons in attendance, the National Gallery of Canada Foundation unveiled its Donor Wall to acknowledge the commitment of the individuals, foundations and corporations that have made financial contributions to the Gallery and to its Foundation.

Thomas P. d'Aquino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Gallery of Canada Foundation, paid tribute to the many donors present: "The Foundation is privileged to be able to count on the support of such a loyal group of patrons. On behalf of the Foundation and the National Gallery of Canada, I wish to extend my most heartfelt thanks to all those who have chosen to be associated with one of the most highly respected institutions in Canada and the world. I am extremely proud to announce that the total cumulative financial contributions of the donors appearing on the wall is more than $15 million."

Donald Sobey, Chairman of the Gallery's Board of Trustees, said, "I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Foundation, particularly Thomas d'Aquino, the Board of Directors, and Marie Claire Morin, President and CEO, for their leadership and their initiative. This magnificent recognition project is a concrete example of the work accomplished by the Foundation since it was created in 1997."

The Gallery's Director, Pierre Théberge, added, "The Donor Wall reflects the exceptional contribution of our patrons, whose generosity supports many projects and essential activities within the National Gallery. These donors have enabled the Gallery to fulfill its mandate and pursue its traditions of excellence for future generations."

The new Donor Wall as well as the art donors' wall, unveiled in September, are part of a series of recognition projects initiated by the Foundation in honour of the National Gallery 125th anniversary to acknowledge the numerous partners and patrons who have made a commitment to the Gallery and its Foundation.
