Ottawa, Canada - May 18, 1999

Tickets are now on sale for this summer's much anticipated special exhibition double bill. The National Gallery of Canada is pleased to present the exclusive world-wide presentation of Van Gogh's Irises: Masterpiece in Focus, opening 11 June and continuing until 19 September 1999. This highly-focused exhibition unites a select group of seven oil paintings and two works on paper, and will feature a thematic selection of Van Gogh's finest masterpieces from the most prestigious museums in the world.

The National Gallery of Canada also proudly presents the world premiere of a major retrospective of the renowned French artist Honoré Daumier, known as "the Michelangelo of the people", on view from 11 June to 6 September 1999. This first-ever full retrospective of Daumier's creative production since his death features more than 300 works, including paintings, watercolours, drawings, lithographs, and sculptures. The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, the Reunion des Musées Nationaux/Musée d'Orsay, Paris, and The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.

The National Gallery of Canada gratefully acknowledges the sponsorship of The Iris Club, AIM Mutual Funds, and Air France, as well as CBC, Radio-Canada and The Château Laurier.

Tickets are time and date specific, and permit entry to both exhibitions. They may be purchased in person at the National Gallery of Canada or by telephone at (613) 998-8888 or toll-free 1-888-541-8888. Service charges apply.
