Sixteen National and Regional Museums Launch Museums' Day 1999
Ottawa, Canada - April 14, 1999
On Sunday, May 16th 1999, 16 national and regional museums will present the first region-wide celebration of Museums' Day. Presented by the American Express Foundation and with the generous sponsorship of the Ottawa Citizen, Museums' Day 1999 will offer guided tours, interactive workshops, performing arts, special exhibitions, contests and more. From natural sciences, visual arts and technology to artifacts and historical sites, Museums' Day will provide an opportunity to discover the extraordinary scope of cultural experiences available in the National Capital Region.
Museums' Day 1999 will honour International Museums Day, an annual event which is celebrated by museums and galleries across Canada and around the world. For this year's celebration, local, regional and national museums have joined together to create an exciting array of special programming. Whether it's a visit devoted to art, science, ethnography or archaeology, the pleasures of discovery are an essential attraction.
The public will be encouraged to visit as many sites as possible. Shuttle buses operated by OCTranspo will provide easy access between sites in all directions. Contest ballots will be distributed throughout the region and at each museum for individual prize packages as well as for a grand prize to be drawn in July. Admission is free all day at all museums.
Museums' Day has also been supported by: Le Droit, Majic 100, CIMF ROCK détente, Capital Parent Newspaper, The Canadian Tulip Festival, Acme Advertising Inc., Aerographics, The Marketing Works, OC Transpo, CBC CBO Morning and Dollco Digital Print Ltd.
