« Les œuvres de Christopher Pratt exposées au MBAC au printemps 2003 »
In conjunction with "The Atlantic Scene", a festival that will attract 200 artists form Atlantic Canada, the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) is pleased to announce an exhibition devoted to the work of Christopher Pratt in Spring 2003. Spanning some 30 years of creation, the exhibition Places I Have Been: Christopher Pratt will present some thirty silkscreen prints and lithographs by the artist, who is a native of Newfoundland.
"The National Gallery of Canada is very proud to be associated with the first edition of "The Atlantic Scene" and welcomes this initiative of the National Arts Centre," said Pierre Théberge, Director of the National Gallery. "I am sure that the Festival will be a great success and offer a number of artists from Atlantic Canada the opportunity to become better known on the national scene. We invite the public to discover the art of Christopher Pratt at the National Gallery from March 21 to June 1, 2003."
Dedicated to the themes of place, memory and experience, Places I Have Been brings together silkscreen prints and lithographs produced by Christopher Pratt from 1961 to the 1990s. Pratt's work is characterized by its classical frontal composition, sharp lines, subtle tones and minimal shadows, but above all by its brilliant luminosity.
Places I Have Been is mainly comprised of Pratt's gift to the Canadiana Fund's State Art Collection Project, which was established to build a national art collection for display in Canada's official residences. The exhibition was made possible by the generosity of the Canadiana Fund in making the works available for tour, through the National Gallery. Following its presentation at the National Gallery from 21 March to 1 June 2003, the exhibition will be circulated to venues across Canada.
