In the early thirties, Milne spent some time in the area of Palgrave, Ontario where he painted this traditional Ontario farmhouse. In Ollie Matson's House Is Just a Square Red Cloud, Milne captures with a few lines and colours the open skies above the house. The building which stood on Wallace Avenue almost opposite to Milne's was observed almost daily by the artist from his usual view: the upstairs front window of his studio, looking toward the west.
