Simone Martini

Simone Martini studied painting in his native region, most probably as an apprentice to Duccio di Buoninsegna, a Sienese master of great renown. Martini is regarded as the first painter of the International Gothic style, which spread widely throughout Europe in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
