Lawren S. Harris

A founding member of the Group of Seven, Lawren Harris had a major influence on art in Canada. Born in Brantford, Ontario, he studied painting in Berlin from 1905 to 1907. He pursued an art inspired by the Canadian landscape, and by 1930 he had exhibited paintings of the Lake Superior Region and the Canadian Rockies, as well as the Arctic. In 1940 he moved to Santa Fe, then Vancouver, exploring abstraction derived from his studies of theosophy.
