Margaret Watkins

Having learned photography as a teenager, Watkins went to study at the Clarence White School of Photography in New York in 1914. She began to teach advertising photography there in 1917. One of the first women to be hired by a major advertising firm during the 1920s, Watkins was also a member of Pictorial Photographers of America and exhibited her work around the world. Her meteoric career ended abruptly when she became responsible for nursing her relatives in Scotland from 1928 to 1939. World War II prevented her from returning to North America and she remained in Scotland.
