Morphosis: Grade 9-12

Summary

This lesson plan provides an introduction to contemporary Inuit prints and drawings in the National Gallery of Canada?s collection. The chosen works are from five important print shops located in the four major regions of the Canadian Arctic. Students will create a flipbook that will morph them into an animal form.

Theory:

Students will demonstrate knowledge of art from Inuit culture.

Creation:

Students will use experiences from their personal, social, cultural, and/or physical environments as a basis for visual expression.

Analysis:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between art and Inuit identity or context.

This lesson plan also explores the subject areas of Native Studies, Social Sciences and Humanities, Canadian and World Studies, English Language.
