Picture This!: Grade 7-8

Summary

This lesson plan provides an introduction to contemporary Inuit prints and drawings in the National Gallery of Canada?s collection. The chosen works are from five important print shops located in the four major regions of the Canadian Arctic. Students will learn about stenciling and incorporate it on a drawing to emphasize an aspect of a heroic story.

Theory:

Students will recognize how the elements of design are used to create an area of emphasis in compositions.

Creation:

Students will produce personally meaningful images using appropriate materials and processes.

Analysis:

Students will explain how the effective use of the elements and principles of design contributes to an artwork's ability to communicate feelings and convey ideas.
