Self-Portrait, Mirrors and Metamorphosis!: Grade 9-12
Summary
After exploring the complex visual worlds of M.C. Escher, students will create their own self-portrait using different types of reflective surfaces. They will engage in a process of self-reflection and how they want to be portrayed.
Theory:
Students will manipulate and organize elements and principles of design (ie. reflection, perspective and distortion of space) to convey the complexities of personality through self-portraiture.
Creation:
Students will produce two-dimensional works of art that express their intent, using a variety and appropriate selection of materials, tools, processes.
Analysis:
Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between art and self-identity, the use of materials and processes.

This lesson plan also explores the subject areas of mathematics, English.
Duration:
2-4 40-minute periods.
