A box in Progress: Grade 4-6

Summary

American artists from the 60?s and 70?s questioned the very nature of what art is, and what it could be made of. By using the box as a modular form, students will create a unique freestanding collaborative sculpture out of everyday materials.

Theory:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the expressive qualities of the elements and principles of design such as volume, mass, weight and the role of space.

Creation:

Students will use particular elements and principles of design such as volume, weight, and mass in a variety of ways to create a freestanding floor sculpture.

Analysis:

Use grade appropriate vocabulary and art terminology.
