Aboriginal Voices in Canadian Contemporary Art
Grade K-3
My Own Blanket:
After exploring different artworks by contemporary Canadian aboriginal artists, the students will use a variety of techniques to create an artwork that includes both symmetry and asymmetry.
Grade 4-6
Who Am I?:
After exploring different works of art by contemporary Canadian Aboriginal artists, the students will express their cultural identity by creating a work of art. They will use a variety of techniques to create a mirror of their cultural and family history.
Grade 7-8
Memories of the Past:
After exploring different artworks, the students will experiment with the characteristics and creative potential of the work of contemporary Aboriginal artists. They will use a variety of techniques to pay tribute to the past by physically representing a memory or tradition.
Grade 9-12
Make a Parfleche:
After exploring various artworks, the students will experiment with the characteristics and creative potential of the work of contemporary Aboriginal artists. By making a parfleche, they will come to understand the importance that Aboriginal peoples attach to the aesthetic value of objects.
