James Rosenquist
James Rosenquist was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1933. After studying art at the Minneapolis Art Institute and the University of Minnesota, he won a scholarship to the Art Students League in New York in 1955. There he met Jasper Johns, Robert Rauchenburg, Robert Indiana, and Claes Oldenburg, all of whom, like Rosenquist, would be associated with Pop Art. His paintings continue to express a vision of the best and the worst of American consumer culture.
