AA Bronson     
AA Bronson was born Michael Tims in Vancouver in 1946. He studied architecture at the University of Manitoba in the mid-sixties. In Toronto in 1969 he formed General Idea with Felix Partz (a.k.a.Ron Gabe, born 1945, in Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Jorge Zontal (a.k.a.Jorge Saia, born1944, in Parma, Italy and came to Canada in 1968. During their 25 year association, they produced work in every conceivable medium ? pioneering video and performance work as well as creating installations, and public art projects. General idea ended when Felix and Jorge died of AIDS in 1994. AA Bronson now works under his own name.General Idea?s credits include the International Video Art Festival Portopia Award(Kobe, Japan, 1981), the Gershon Iskowitz Prize(1988), the City of Toronto Lifetime Achievement Award(1993) and the Bell Canada Award in Video Art (2002).
